FREQUETNLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW IS THE SUNSHINER DIFFERENT THAN TRADITIONAL DISTILLERS?

-Energy Freedom of Choice:

The number one variable cost in distillation is energy. Because of the Sunshiner’s relatively low operating temperature (125-155°F) and ambient environment, onsite solar thermal or waste heat recovery systems become a viable option for power. Current distillation is dependent on local utilities for electricity or natural gas.

-Real Estate:

The Sunshiner requires 1/3 of the factory floor footprint of a comparable pot still.

-Chemistry:

Traditional distillation occurs at temperatures between 172-220°F.  At these temperatures the liquid and any flavoring ingredients in the ferment are boiled in the process. Boiling changes the quality of many flavorings and aromas and may contribute to unwanted qualities like bitterness, sourness and astringency. Distilling at low temperatures allow the distiller to capture the essence of their ingredients while avoiding the undesired effects of high temperature distillation.

-Cost:

The Sunshiner is less expensive to build and operate than a traditional still of similar performance.

-Climate Change:

The Sunshiner can operate with little or no carbon footprint when using renewable or waste energy sources as its energy input.

WHY DID YOU DEVELOP THE SUNSHINER?

The cost of using fossil fuels to power our global economy is becoming unsustainable. We believe it is important to transition to a clean economy as fast as we can. The Sunshiner is able to utilize a natural process and a natural energy source to produce a better product that costs less. Less cost in dollars. Less cost in environment. The intent is to demonstrate investment in technologies like Sunshiner is the profitable thing to do. Lead by example. Mankind depends on it.

IS THE SUNSHINER 100% SOLAR POWERED?

It can be. Because of the low temperatures and atmospheric pressure that we operate at,  onsite solar thermal and electric panels can safely and easily power the entire operation and more. However, other energy sources may be utilized as well. Including, industrial waste heat, wind or traditional utility sources (electricity or gas), etc.

WHAT IS WASTE HEAT?

Waste heat is the heat left over from converting energy to work.  It is the heat going up the smokestack.  The friction when you hit the brakes.  The heat from stove that doesn’t make it into your food.  Next to the Sun’s rays hitting Earth, waste heat is the most abundant source of energy on the planet.  Plus, it’s free!  Free both economically and environmentally in the sense that it has already been paid for.  Why not us it to make high quality spirits.

ARE SUNSHINER DISTILLERS AVAILABLE FOR SALE?

The patented Sunshiner system, including the solar system, is available for lease to licensed distillers.

DO YOU PROVIDE AND INSTALL THE SOLAR SYSTEMS?

Yes. The Sunshiner leasing program includes the solar system.

HOW WILL SUNSHINER SYSTEMS HELP MITIGATE CLIMATE CHANGE?

Sunshiner technology replaces a high carbon diet technology with a lower one.
